It appears that Mahindra may not?be the only one hungry for Saab?s assets. When bidding time comes, it may have to battle a few Chinese automakers and a Turkish company before it can actually bring those Swedish leftovers home.
According to a report by?Automotive News Europe, Dongfeng Motors plans to buy all of Saab?s assets come April, once the Swedish automaker is liquidated. A few years ago, Dongfeng was one of many companies considered to save Saab from bankruptcy. Back then, the Chinese automaker would have gained technology to develop passenger cars and the same rings true now.?Automotive News is also reporting that Youngman Lotus ? which has already purchased Saab?s Phoenix architecture ? is also interesting in scooping additional Saab assets.
If that isn?t enough, the mix is expected to include an unnamed Turkish company, along with Mahindra.?As we reported last month, India?s largest SUV maker is working on a bid to acquire some assets. Mahindra?s plans are still unknown, but the company is allegedl set to meet with Saab?s bankruptcy administrators to work out a potential deal. Needless to say, we are skeptical anything will come to fruition following its failed attempt to bring diesel-powered pickup trucks to America. But if they do walk the walk, it should make for an interesting three-way battle between the Chinese, Turkish and Indian automakers.
