Harrison Ford to confirm Han Solo role: reports

He qualifies for a seniors bus pass but that hasn?t stopped Harrison Ford from being linked to a reprisal of his famous Stars Wars role as snarky smuggler Han Solo.

Latino Review movie reporter Umberto Gonzalez announced the story on Fox News, saying ?it?s a done deal.?

The 70-year-old Ford has previously distanced himself from the part, urging George Lucas to kill off his swaggering loner character.

But it appears he?s had a change of heart now that J.J. Abrams has been confirmed as the director of episode seven of the science-fiction series.

Abrams and Ford have previously collaborated on Regarding Henry and Morning Glory but this will be the first time Abrams will get to direct his childhood hero, said movie blogger Sam Ashurst.

?Latino Review has a strong record when it comes to scoops, so expect this story to develop, with Abrams, Ford and Disney making official statements,? Ashurst wrote on totalfilm.com.

He said: ?Cameos from the original trilogy?s stars (Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill) will be an essential part of Abrams? mission to bridge the gap between the original trilogy and this new series.

?And who doesn?t want to see a grumpy old Solo arguing with a grey-haired Wookie??

Ford last played Han Solo in 1983?s Return of the Jedi.

Meanwhile, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is pumped up for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff film.

A series of Star Wars standalone films is reportedly being planned while the eagerly anticipated episode seven is in production.

One such spinoff might focus on the plight of the heroic Jedi Knight, played by McGregor in episodes one to three and Alec Guinness in versions four, five and six.

McGregor told the U.K. Sun newspaper he fully supports the idea, adding: ?Before Alec Guinness (who played the original Obi), there?s that period where he?s in the desert. That might be my window ? to tell that story.

?I don?t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be exciting.

?I?d be up for it, for sure, of course.?

The Trainspotting actor, 41, last donned Obi-Wan?s cloak and lightsabre in Revenge of the Sith, from 2005. It has been widely praised as the best film of the trilogy of prequels.

?I?ve been waiting 20 years to have my own lightsabre,? McGregor said in an earlier interview. ?Nothing?s cooler than being a Jedi Knight.?

But the outspoken actor has previously criticized working for the detail-driven George Lucas, describing the filming process as boring.
